Sofie is the founder of Maldives School of Yoga, acupuncturist and a creative thinker in the field of yin yoga and its use for people around the world. With over a decade of teaching experience Sofie has a passion for helping people feel centered, present and at home in their bodies, and helping teachers elevate their teaching in the method of yin yoga.

Sofie has been named one of the leading yin yoga teachers in the nordic countries by Yogayama, the largest and most influential yoga studio in Scandinavia.

Sofie grew up in south of Sweden, and was a competitive athlete in martial arts through her teens and early twenties. By age twenty-two she had completed the police academy and started working as a police officer, which later budded into a career as a yoga teacher, after being exposed to violence at duty as a police officer, leading to a long rehab through yoga.

Sofie is master teacher and head teacher at the yin yoga teacher training programs at Yogayama in Sweden, and started travel the world teaching yin yoga as well as sup yoga (stand up paddle board yoga) when she found home in Maldives. She is the pioneer of sup yoga in Sweden and worked many years with Roxy to build an audience of sup yoga and sup surfing. Her love for sports made her create the worlds first Yin Yoga teacher training aimed at athletes, and a few years ago she founded YYFA Yin Yoga for Athletes.

Sofie has studied Yin Yoga with the founders of Yin Yoga, Paul and Suzee Grilley in USA. She is also trained in Hatha Yoga and Advanced Therapeutic Yoga, as well as pedagogy, crisis therapy, human rights and psychology through police academy.

She is currently commuting between Maldives and Sweden, writing a yin yoga book, conducting yin yoga programs, facilitating yin yoga and sup yoga retreats, spreading the love and wonder of acupuncture, knitting sweaters and working on projects with her partner and co-founder of Maldives School of Yoga, Haibe Ali.
